The United Nations System Electronic Information Acquisition Consortium (UNSEIAC) was established under the former ISCC , and is now led by the UN Dag Hammerskjold Library in New York.
The primary objective of UNSEIAC is to achieve system-wide cost savings and efficiencies through joint subscriptions to electronic information products over the Internet. In order to simplify the acquisition and availability of electronic information from commercial sources, the Consortium coordinates the purchasing of licenses for online information sources on behalf of over 55 libraries in the UN system, from some 20 vendors. The total expenditure per annum is just over $1 million, resulting in the availability of information resources valued several million dollars if purchased separately.
The Consortium has been functioning since 1998 when it started with 17 founder members, including the David Lubin Memorial Library. Just some of the important resources available to FAO staff through UNSEIAC are: the Economist Intelligence Unit, Science Direct, CABI, Agricola, and Proquest.
